Peer support groups
Navigating grief or trauma can feel like a solo adventure. We want you to know you are not alone. SOAR supports survivors by facilitating peer-support groups for those involved in or associated with adventure accidents. To build connections, we create groups based on common experiences.
We have spread our wings and currently offering four closed groups:
Trauma- for those who have been a witness to an accident, been a part of a rescue, or have had an experience of loss while in the backcountry. We focus on building awareness of trauma responses and how to recognize when you are in a trauma response. We share the stories of accidents and healing.
Grief- for those who have lost a loved one in an outdoor accident. The group focuses on building connections, acknowledging and honoring the stages of grief, psycho-education, and normalizing everyone’s experiences.
Injury—for those who have sustained impactful injuries in the outdoors. This includes individuals who have sustained injuries that have permanently or temporarily altered their lives. The group focuses on changes to identity, ability, and relationships, the recovery process, risk tolerance, psychoeducation about the nervous system, mindfulness skills, and normalizing everyone’s experiences.
Parents- for parents who are grieving the loss of a child in an outdoor incident.
