Peer Support Groups

Navigating grief or trauma can feel like a solo adventure. We want you to know you are not alone. SOAR supports survivors by facilitating peer-support groups for those involved in or associated with adventure accidents. To build connection, we create groups based on common experiences.

We have spread our wings and currently offering four closed group:

  • Trauma- for folks who have been a witness to an accident, been a part of a rescue, or has had an experience of loss while in the backcountry. We focus on buiding awareness of trauma responses, and how to recognize when you are in a trauma response. Our hope is to hear about other’s experience of both their accident and healing journey.
  • Grief- for folks who have lost a loved one in an outdoor accident. The group focuses on building connections, acknowledging and honoring the stages of grief, psycho-education and normalizing everyone’s experiences.
  • Injury- for folks who have sustained impactful injuries in that outdoors. This includes individuals who have sustained injuries that have permanently or temporarily altered their lives. The group focuses on changes to identity, ability, and relationships, the recovery process, risk tolerance, psycho-education about the nervous system, mindfulness skills, and normalizing everyone’s experiences.
  • Parents- for parents who are grieving the loss of a child in an outdoor incident.

You are not alone on the Journey
